harry georgatos (8 out of 10 ) It took Steven Spielberg to direct the sci-fi movie that Brian De Palma never directed. One can't help but spot all the visual styles that you would find in a Brian De Palma film. Nevertheless this would have to be one of Spielberg's finest efforts. Basically this is a sci-fi film noir masterpiece. The movie would have to rate as one of the most surreal mindbending films ever made. It has one astonishing sequence after another. The cinematography is probably the most harshest employed, which suits the mise-en-scene of the subject matter. Tom Cruise plays his most entertaining role which has similarities to Hitchcock's North by Northwest, with the Cary Grant character. Minority Report has the story structure that Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible films fail to have with their clumsy narratives. The villain of the piece might be predictable to the sharp witted, but what makes this movie stand out is the journey we're taken on till we get to the end. This is definitely a genre piece reminiscent of quality genre films as they were made in the seventies. Back then time was taken to develop characters and story, that led to a satisfying experience. Unfortunately today's movies are hurried into production with incomplete scripts so studios can have movies available for a release date at the expense of the quality of the film. By properly developing screenplays such as Minority Report, not only do the movies perform better at the box office but can stand the test of time.
natalia (9 out of 10 ) I definitely coincide with that opinion, pointing out also that Minority Report is, after Saving Private Ryan (nothing to do with sci-fi, of course), the best Steven Spielberg movie I've ever seen. Moreover, either Tom cruise's or Collin Farrell's performances in the movie are of the highest quality I've seen in both actors, though any of them can nonetheless do much better (and they have, in fact, just watch Valkyrie or The recruit and you'll find their most brilliant performances ever). As for Spielberg, you can't expect less from him than an excellent film.
